BRCA 1/2

How to complete the BRCA 1/2 test

You are just five steps away from having test results :

Test payment

You can pay for your BRCA 1/2 test(s) in advance. Each person being tested will need to complete your requisition and pay for a test. The cost of the test is $600, and charges will be incurred at the time of online payment. Tests are refundable up until the time you have your sample collected.
You are encouraged to check with your private healthcare insurer to see if coverage is provided. You should also check if funding is available in your province. To learn more, please contact

Complete your requisition form

After purchasing the test, you will receive an automated email with your requisition form. Before having the BRCA test performed, you must complete a test requisition and have it signed by your physician.

Meet with your healthcare provider to sign the requisition form

Each individual being tested must have the completed requisition form signed by their physician as well as themselves in the consent box. Requisitions not signed by a physician/healthcare provider will not be processed; LifeLabs will not be able to collect the sample or proceed with testing.

Provide a blood sample

Individuals being tested can visit any LifeLabs Patient Service Centre to have a blood sample taken. For your convenience, you may book an appointment to reduce waiting time. If you are outside Ontario, British Columbia or Saskatchewan, please contact to organize your collection.

Get your results & schedule a post-test counseling

Test results will take 6 weeks. Test results will be sent directly to your physician for their review and follow-up discussion with you. We recommend that you schedule an appointment with your physician after your blood sample is collected to review the results. Counseling with a genetic counselor from our genetic team can also be arranged following receipt of results.
